Sixteen American flags, displayed in beautifully crafted walnut
cases will be presented in mid-June to the families of soldiers of the
Iowa National Guard who are currently serving in Afghanistan. Lt.
Timothy Richert of Des Moines, the officer in charge of the unit, flew
each of the flags over their post in Afghanistan. He requested that the
Des Moines Woodworkers make the flag cases.
A great group of our Club members met at Bob Saunders’ shop on
April 28 and 29 to craft the cases. Members who helped build the
cases included: Paul Morris, Ed Whiting, Bill Hopkins, Herman Riva,
Chuck Dowler, Bob Meyers, Chuck Haas, Scott Schwaller, Mike
Miller, Richard Huyck, Dave Acheson, Jon Hughes, Bob Saunders
and Russ Wilson.
Well, what do you think? Is that about right? How about a cool one. That should help.
