Artistry in Wood + 2 X 4 -2009 : Attendance was up 30% at this years Artistry in Wood event. Awards were given to Mel Slaybaugh, First Place; Bob Saunders, Second Place; and Steve Moselley, Third Place. In addition, awards in the 2X4 contest were given to Bob Saunders, Chuck Dowler and John Twedt.

A Project in Need : This is a photo of the spiral turning that needs to be duplicated for the Sherman Hills home of Jeff Collins. It is approx. 26 1/2" long, 1 1/4" diameter and the interval of the spiral is 3/4". You will need to obtain accurate measurements at the house. Festival Of Trees 2007 : The Festival of Trees is a Community Service Project the Des Moines Woodworkers has participated in for several years. Club members make and donate wood Christmas Tree ornaments. A Group of Voluntary Members use the wood ornaments to decorate a Christmas Tree. The tree is publicly displayed for a few days along with trees decorated by many other Groups. The trees are sold at auction to Individuals and Businesses. The auction proceeds are given to Blank Children's Hospital. For 2007, the Decorating Group was lead by Herman and Stephanie Riva.

2 X 4 Contest - Artistry in Wood 2007 : An addition to the Artistry in Wood Show this year was the 2 X 4 contest. The rules were simple: Create a showpiece from a 2 X 4 X 8' Conifer. Imagination and Skills went into high gear as witnessed by the accompanying photos. The judge awarded a cash prize of $50 to each of five winners: Bob Saunders, hat; John Twedt, barn; Rick Hutcheson, clock; Bill Mack, canoe; and Del Kramersmeier, bird house.

Artistry in Wood 2007 : Artistry in Wood 2007 was held at The Woodsmith Store on October 27 & 28. This is an Annual Public Event sponsored by the Club to showcase the outstanding skills and excellent work of our Members. Photos were taken by Member Bill Hopkins. The attending Public votes for three "People's Choice Awards". Winners were John Twedt 1st, Elise Walker 2nd and Mel Slaybaugh 3rd. Check out the Pictures of their Winning Projects. Artistry in Wood 2007

Camp Sunnyside "Break-a-Thon" 2007 : In September 2007, Members volunteered to help Easter Seals' Camp Sunnyside prepare 5,000 boards for their "Break-a-Thon". Pine boards 12 inches wide were cut in various lengths in preperation for their fund raising event where about 200 Martial Arts' students and instructors break these boards.

Iowa State Fair 2007 : A number of Club members took home 2007 Iowa State Fair Woodworking Show awards including: Russ Hansen, Bob Sauders, John Twedt, Jim Nelson, Tim Rundall.

Iowa National Guard Flag Case Project 2007 : Sixteen American flags, displayed in beautifully crafted walnut cases will be presented in mid-June to the families of soldiers of the Iowa National Guard who are currently serving in Afghanistan. Lt. Timothy Richert of Des Moines, the officer in charge of the unit, flew each of the flags over their post in Afghanistan. He requested that the Des Moines Woodworkers make the flag cases. A great group of our Club members met at Bob Saunders’ shop on April 28 and 29 to craft the cases. Members who helped build the cases included: Paul Morris, Ed Whiting, Bill Hopkins, Herman Riva, Chuck Dowler, Bob Meyers, Chuck Haas, Scott Schwaller, Mike Miller, Richard Huyck, Dave Acheson, Jon Hughes, Bob Saunders and Russ Wilson.

Show & Tell - Dec Meeting 2006 : Our December regular Club Meeting each year is a Holiday social get-together with spouses invited. Members bring treats for sharing and we have an extended Project Show & Tell. These Photos were taken by Bob Blank of some of the Show & Tell Projects.

Summer Tour to Woodworking Shop In Story City 2006 : One of our 2006 Summer Tours was to the RVP 1875 Woodworking Shop in Story City, Iowa. This is Robby Pedersen's shop where he makes heirloom furniture the way it use to be done.
